Zeydan Karalar was born in Adana in 1958. He completed his primary and secondary education in Adana.
He founded the Democratic Left Higher Education Association in 1977 and acted as the chairman.
He acted as the provincial president and the central district president of Republican People’s Party Youth between the years of 1977 and 1980.
He graduated from Cukurova University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1980.
He got elected as the President of the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers in 1981 when he was just 23 years old becoming Turkey’s youngest chamber president. He served as regional chairman and delegate of the supreme board of the chamber for two years.
He worked as a supervisor of yarn processing between 1979 to 1985 in Çukobirlik.
He went on to work as the customer services manager in ETİ Industries Inc., a German company, until 1991.
He returned to Çukobirlik Textile between the years 1991 and 1996, working as the factory manager and deputy technical general manager.
He worked as the general manager of Okan Textile Inc. between 1996 and 2007. He established the Okan-Antriko Integrated Textile Factory in Kazakhstan and acted as the general manager there.
In 2005, he established his own company A-TEKS Engineering. Then in 2008 he founded his second company, Başkent Pres.
However, his management role within the company didn’t hold him back in his political career. He got appointed as the Republican People’s Party’s Provincial Chairman of Adana on July 7, 2010. During which time he oversaw the referendum campaigning, then on 23 January 2011 he got elected by the Provincial Convention and continued his role as the chairman during the general elections.
Zeydan Karalar took office as the Mayor of Seyhan District Municipality in Turkey’s 2014 local elections. He was elected with 31.74 percent of the votes in 2014 then in the Republican People’s Party’s Caucus held on 18 December 2018. He got elected with 53.69 percent of the votes as the Mayor of Adana Metropolitan Municipality on 31 March 2019 during the local elections. He started serving as the Mayor of Adana on 11 April 2019
upon receiving his certificate of election from the Supreme Election Council.
Zeydan Karalar is still a member of the ADSİAD (The Industrialists and Businessmen Association of Adana) and Chamber of Mechanical Engineers. He also serves as the chairman of A-TEKS Engineering.
His wife Nuray Karalar is a science teacher, his daughter is a medical doctor, and both his sons are engineers. He knows Arabic and German.
